The Mayor of London has responded to recent remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump, who labeled him “grossly incompetent” and a “bad person” during a public statement. The mayor described the exchange as an example of Trump’s enduring fixation, quipping that he is “living rent-free in Donald Trump’s head.”
Trump’s comments, delivered at an Oval Office press briefing, also criticized the mayor as a “horrible representative for the UK.” The mayor dismissed the remarks as a “silly crush,” emphasizing that the U.S. president’s attention has been a recurring feature of their public interactions since 2015.
The exchange follows London’s recent recognition with the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, a prestigious award recognizing urban planning excellence. The mayor and Trump have exchanged public disagreements over issues including immigration policies and responses to security threats, with tensions dating back to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
During a separate event in Islington, the mayor announced the launch of Heat Ready London, a citywide initiative to address rising temperatures. The strategy aims to safeguard residents, particularly vulnerable populations, against the health risks of extreme heat. Key measures include improving urban infrastructure resilience and expanding support for high-risk communities.
“Rising temperatures are no longer a future threat—they are a present reality,” the mayor stated. “This plan outlines a collaborative approach to protect lives and strengthen London’s ability to adapt to climate challenges. No single organization can tackle this alone, so we are calling on partners across the city to act collectively.”
