London will see temperatures of 31°C by Monday amid a heatwave that followed a rare red warning for extreme heat last week.
A provisional record of 37.7°C was reached in Lingwood, Norfolk, surpassing the previous June record of 35.6°C set in 1976 by more than 2°C. The new figure marks the warmest June on record for England and the second warmest for the UK and Wales.
The heatwave produced exceptionally warm overnight temperatures, driving the highest average minimum temperatures on record for the UK, England, and Wales. June 2026 is provisionally the second-warmest June overall, with Wales recording its second warmest, and Scotland and Northern Ireland joint fourth warmest since 1884.
Health authorities have issued red heat alerts to protect vulnerable populations as temperatures continue to rise.
