MAYOR'S DISASTER: Booze, Wreckage & a SHOCKING Arrest!

MAYOR'S DISASTER: Booze, Wreckage & a SHOCKING Arrest!

A quiet Tuesday in rural Virginia shattered with the screech of metal and the unsettling sight of a train derailment. But the unfolding emergency took an unexpected turn with the arrival of Rich Creek’s newly elected mayor, Paul Morrison.

Emergency crews were already battling the aftermath near the West Virginia border when Morrison, 57, appeared at the scene. Witnesses and authorities allege he was visibly intoxicated, a jarring presence amidst the focused efforts to contain the situation.

Video footage quickly surfaced, showing the mayor engaged in conversation with first responders. The details of that interaction remain unclear, but it soon led to his arrest by the Giles County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of public intoxication.

The derailment itself involved a Norfolk Southern train carrying soybean oil, a portion of which spilled into the Bluestone River. Thankfully, environmental officials confirmed the oil posed no immediate hazard, lessening one layer of concern during the crisis.

Morrison, who won a write-in campaign last November with a landslide 77 out of 106 votes in the small town of roughly 700 residents, was processed and released on his own recognizance. The incident cast a shadow over his recent victory and the community he serves.

Days later, Morrison issued a public apology, expressing remorse to his family, the first responders, town employees, the town council, and the residents of Rich Creek. He acknowledged his condition and actions on the night of the derailment, taking full responsibility.

“I am truly sorry to have let you down,” Morrison stated, promising that such an incident would not be repeated. He also apologized for any inconvenience or embarrassment his behavior may have caused.

Court records indicate Morrison is scheduled to appear in Giles County court on July 7th, leaving the future of his mayorship and his standing within the community uncertain as the legal process unfolds.
