Toronto is about to transform into a transit powerhouse for the World Cup. The TTC just unveiled an ambitious plan to move tens of thousands of fans with military precision.
Forget driving. Public transit isn't just an option—it's the only smart way to reach BMO Field and the FIFA Fan Festival at Fort York. The agency is pulling out all the stops with drastically increased service across every mode.
RapidTO red transit-only lanes are slashing travel times on Dufferin and Bathurst Streets south of Bloor. A brand-new transit hub at Fleet Street and Strachan Avenue will become the nerve center for stadium crowds.
Starting June 7 through July 24, the 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst streetcars will arrive every five minutes during peak periods. The 504 King line joins the party with the same frequency, all day long.
On match days—June 12, 17, 20, 23, 26, and July 2—the Fleet Street Transit Hub becomes the single pick-up and drop-off zone. Exhibition Loop closes entirely. The 509 and 511 streetcars end their runs right at that hub.
Buses get a boost too. The 29/929 Dufferin line adds extra trips on match days and weekends. Special World Cup shuttles will run between key locations, ferrying fans directly to the action.
Subway lines 1 and 2 ramp up service on game days, creating seamless connections to buses and streetcars. No bottlenecks, no waiting ages for a transfer.
Signage across the entire system gets a massive upgrade. FIFA-style pictograms guide international visitors. Extra staff and customer service agents flood key stations, ready to help bewildered tourists find their way.
Security presence on the TTC intensifies visibly. Fans can expect a heightened, reassuring showing of transit police and safety personnel throughout the network.
This isn't just a schedule change—it's a full-scale transit operation designed to make the World Cup in Toronto an unforgettable experience for everyone who steps off the train.
