Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have achieved a historic milestone in the UK chart history with their 2025 duet "Rein Me In".
The pop-rock ballad, released on Sam's third solo album "People Watching", made its first appearance on the Official Singles Chart in June last year and has since spent 16 weeks on the charts.
Impressively, "Rein Me In" has now surpassed Wet Wet Wet's "Love Is All Around" as the longest-running number one single by a UK act. On a global scale, it has equalled Bryan Adams, who achieved the same with his 1991 power ballad "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You".
Sam, 32, expressed his excitement over the news, stating that the song's success has been "ridiculous". He also credited Olivia, 27, for much of the song's success, saying that her alternative narrative made the song "really universal" and "opened the floodgates".
"Rein Me In" is also set to take the record for a song's longest consecutive run in the UK Top 40, beating Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" with 55 weeks. However, the song's chances of beating Frankie Laine's 18-week record are at risk, as England's World Cup match against Norway tonight could see Baddiel and Skinner's football anthem "Three Lions" leap up the charts.
The song's unexpected success has left some fans baffled, with users on social media registering their bemusement that this one song managed to go the distance. However, many are rooting for Sam and Olivia's little song, with some enthusiasts calling it a "GREAT song" and expressing their excitement to see it reach its full potential.
With two weeks still to go, "Rein Me In" is set to make history, and its fans are eagerly awaiting the outcome.
