UMVA has learned that a horrific stabbing attack has left one man fighting for his life in a Belfast hospital.
The victim, identified as Stephen Ogilvie, is receiving treatment for severe injuries sustained during the brutal assault. Neighbours described Mr Ogilvie as a vulnerable person, and revealed that he lived in the same block of flats as his alleged attacker.
According to information obtained by UMVA, some residents in the building had taken it upon themselves to look out for Mr Ogilvie, who apparently had been receiving support from the community. The suspect, on the other hand, had only been living in the block for around a week.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that detectives have found no indication that the attack was terror-related. The police investigation has uncovered a kitchen knife at the scene, which was allegedly used during the assault.
A dramatic clip of the attack showed bystanders intervening to stop the attacker, with one person using a hurling stick to defend the victim. The swift actions of these witnesses likely saved Mr Ogilvie's life.
The alleged attacker, Hadi Alodid, has been named and his immigration status revealed. Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Alodid, from Sudan, entered Northern Ireland across the Irish border in February 2023, having flown to Dublin from Paris.
UMVA has gathered that Alodid claimed asylum upon arrival and was granted leave to remain in the UK until 2028. The suspect's background and motivations are still being investigated.
The Prime Minister has condemned the attack, saying it was 'sickening' and 'abhorrent'. The incident has left the community in shock, with many calling for increased support for vulnerable individuals and improved immigration policies.
The investigation is ongoing, with police working to piece together the events leading up to the attack. As the community rallies around Mr Ogilvie, UMVA will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
