Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool consider loan-back option in pursuit of highly sought-after midfielder

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly moving closer to a major battle for one of Europe’s most highly rated teenage midfielders, with Lille determined to keep their young star for another season. Both clubs want to strengthen for the future, but Lille's insistence on keeping the player for another year could create a difficult choice. Paying a major fee now without receiving the player until 2027 would reduce the short-term benefit, but rejecting the arrangement could allow a rival to secure one of the market’s most exciting prospects.

Arsenal and Liverpool are reluctantly prepared to sign the 18-year-old midfielder and loan him back to Lille for the entire 2026/27 campaign. The French club believes another year of regular first-team football would be best for the player’s development. This compromise could prove decisive in securing the player's signature, as both clubs recognize the importance of long-term planning.

The midfielder in question, Ayyoub Bouaddi, already possesses an extraordinary amount of senior experience for his age, with nearly 100 first-team appearances for Lille and a key role in Morocco’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals. His huge potential makes the gamble of signing him and loaning him back to Lille understandable, as elite teenage midfielders with this level of experience rarely become available.

However, the fee must reflect his delayed arrival, as paying a superstar price and then waiting a year would represent a major financial risk. Both clubs also need players who can contribute immediately, making the loan-back plan a calculated risk. If it lowers the price and secures Bouaddi before his value rises further, the compromise could be a smart move for both Arsenal and Liverpool.
