US comedian Kathy Griffin has joined the chorus of voices criticizing Jimmy Fallon for interviewing Conor McGregor.
The UFC fighter, who was found liable for the 2018 rape of Nikita Hand, appeared on the late-night talk show host's program in June despite his dark past.
Hand's injuries from the assault included bruising on all four limbs, a bloodied scratch to her breast, tenderness to her neck, and a possible tear in her vagina from a tampon wedged so far up that it had to be removed using forceps.
She was awarded €248,603 in damages, and McGregor has maintained that the encounter was consensual, although he lost his appeal against the ruling.
Griffin, who was the center of an outraged storm after posting a picture with President Donald Trump's severed head in 2017, took to her social media to express her disapproval of Fallon's decision to platform McGregor.
'I think it was a bad call for him to have rapist Conor McGregor on,' Griffin said. 'I think the Fallon folks made a mistake by having him on.'
She claimed that the decision sends a message to women and marginalized folks that they are not equal and that perpetrators will continue to be glorified.
Griffin also referenced Fallon's infamous interview with Trump, another highly criticized appearance that was criticized for being chummy despite the Republican president's controversial tenure.
'As the most cancelled celebrity in history,' Griffin said, 'it's time we make up our minds about who we're going to cancel and who we're not.'
She concluded by saying, 'As the kids say, do better,' and expressed frustration with Fallon's decision to platform McGregor, saying that he should be saving cancellations for those who truly deserve it.
Griffin also claimed that she has been banned from appearing on the Jimmy Fallon show, saying that she has not done the show since it was on at 12:30 Eastern and Pacific, and that in her case, they 'don't have room for you.'
However, sources close to the show indicated that her claims around being banned were 'exaggerated.'
Meanwhile, Addams Family star Christina Ricci has also publicly called out Fallon for giving McGregor a platform on his show.
'Conor McGregor raped a woman so brutally that the EMT who saw her commented on the severity of her bruising,' Ricci posted on her Instagram. 'She also had to have the tampon she was using when he raped her surgically removed, as it had been shoved so far inside her.'
'Why the absolute fk is this piece of human garbage being given a platform on Jimmy Fallon's show?' Ricci asked. 'Shame on you, Jimmy.'
