For years, the ritual of boarding a JetBlue flight followed a familiar, if sometimes confusing, pattern of letters and names. That’s about to change. Starting April 29th, the airline is streamlining its boarding process, ditching the alphabet soup for a simple, numbered system designed to get everyone settled faster and with less confusion.
The shift prioritizes clarity. Instead of deciphering which group – A, B, C, or a Mosaic level – you belonged to, passengers will now board based on a numerical designation, from Group 1 to Group 8. This change aims to create a more intuitive experience, especially for infrequent flyers.
Loyalty remains a key factor, but the hierarchy is being adjusted. Top-tier Mosaic members and those enjoying the premium Mint experience will continue to receive priority boarding, securing their spot in Group 1.
A significant change elevates “EvenMore” passengers – those who’ve chosen seats with extra legroom – to Group 2, alongside Mosaic 1 and 2 members. This acknowledges their investment in a more comfortable travel experience.
JetBlue is also introducing a dedicated Group 3 for holders of its premium credit cards, the JetBlue Premier and JetBlue Business cards. Passengers who purchase “Blue Extra” fares, or select Early Boarding as a TrueBlue perk, will also board within this group – with one notable exception.
Those traveling on the most basic “Blue Basic” fare won’t be eligible for the Early Boarding perk within Group 3. This reinforces the tiered benefits system, aligning boarding privileges with fare class.
Beyond the core groups, the boarding order continues with pre-boarding for passengers with disabilities, followed by courtesy boarding for active military personnel and those traveling with young children or car seats. JetBlue Vacations customers and general boarding based on seat location will fill Groups 4 through 8.
The previous system, with its Mosaic levels and lettered groups, often led to questions and uncertainty. JetBlue believes this new numbered approach will offer a smoother, more predictable boarding experience for all passengers.
The airline communicated these changes directly to Mosaic members, emphasizing the goal of simplification and consistency. It’s a move designed to reduce stress and improve the overall start to every journey.
