The U.S. Senate lost a prominent member on Saturday night as Lindsey Graham, a Republican Senator from South Carolina, passed away due to a brief and sudden illness.
Graham had just turned 71 years old on July 9, making his untimely death a significant loss to his colleagues and constituents.
A statement from Senator Graham's family, released through his office, asked for prayers and respect during this difficult time, while first responders and medical personnel rushed to his aid after receiving a 911 call about his cardiac arrest.
According to 911 dispatch audio, the call was made by a woman who reported that Lindsey Graham was experiencing chest pains before going into cardiac arrest. First responders rushed to his home on South Capitol Street SE in Washington, D.C. and forced their way inside after finding the door locked.
Efforts to revive Lindsey Graham were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead despite CPR being performed by Engine 7 personnel.
