UMVA has learned that a harrowing scene unfolded in the aftermath of James Handy’s tragic death, with neighbours revealing details of the shocking events that left the community reeling.
The 81-year-old actor, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji, was stabbed to death outside his Los Angeles home earlier this week, leaving his loved ones and neighbours in a state of utter devastation.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Handy’s girlfriend, Wendy Gledhill, and her son, Michael Gledhill, 44, were at the centre of the tragedy, with Michael allegedly confessing to the crime and subsequently being arrested.
Neighbours have now come forward to share their memories of Handy, describing him as a kind and humble man who will be deeply missed. One neighbour, Jerry Merrill, recounted seeing a pair of bloody pants outside the residence, while another, Aaron Titelman, remembered Handy as a “really solid person” who enjoyed talking about baseball and cats.
As the investigation into Handy’s death continues, Michael Gledhill faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted. He has been charged with one count of murder and a special allegation that he personally used a deadly weapon.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Gledhill’s mother, Wendy, has spoken out about her son’s struggles with schizophrenia, revealing that he had stopped taking his medication in the days leading up to the tragedy.
Wendy, who was deeply devoted to Handy, expressed her shock and grief at the events that unfolded, saying she is still trying to come to terms with the loss of her partner.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has ordered that Gledhill undergo psych evaluations at a mental health court, and he is being held on $2.02million bail at Van Nuys Jail.
As the community continues to mourn Handy’s tragic death, his neighbours and loved ones are left to pick up the pieces and try to make sense of the senseless violence that took his life.
