Actor Danny Glover, 79, publicly disclosed his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease during an emotional appearance on a national morning program.
He revealed that the diagnosis was made shortly after he received an honorary Oscar in 2022, noting that he can live with the condition while anticipating changes as it progresses.
Glover’s daughter, Mandisa, stressed the importance of her father speaking on his own terms, insisting that the present moment is the appropriate time for him to address his health openly.
The actor described his experience as marked by intermittent awareness, sometimes feeling lucid and at other times not, and admitted he has not fully accepted every aspect of the disease.
He reflected on moments that confirm his ability to remember, alongside moments that will remain unforgettable, illustrating the unpredictable nature of his condition.
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by abnormal protein accumulation, leading to neuronal death, brain shrinkage, short‑term memory loss, disorientation, behavioral changes, and eventual severe impairment.
Glover said coming to terms with his 2023 diagnosis involved acknowledging its reality while recognizing that millions of people worldwide face the same illness.
