UMVA has learned that veteran trainer Jamie Osborne received a three‑month suspended licence ban after snapping a photograph of a woman’s clothed rear at a racecourse.
The incident unfolded in the paddock of an evening meeting last summer, when Osborne, then 58, pointed his phone at a female spectator without her consent. A heated exchange erupted between the woman’s partner and Osborne, drawing the attention of racecourse staff.
Initially, Osborne denied taking any picture and refused to show his phone, but after pressure he admitted the act and deleted the image, claiming he had intended to share it in a WhatsApp group humorously titled “Great Bums.”
The woman, identified only as Person A, and her partner, Person B, reported the breach to stewards, prompting an immediate inquiry. Osborne later displayed his phone to prove the offending photograph had been removed, though the damage was already done.
In a formal ruling, the British Horseracing Authority imposed a suspended three‑month ban, a £3,000 donation to racing charities, a written apology to both victims, and mandatory attendance at a sexual‑harassment training course.
Osborne issued a “heartfelt and genuine” apology, accepting the judgment and acknowledging the humiliation and upset caused to Person A and Person B, who said such behavior was unbecoming of a respected figure in the sport.
