A youth football game in Fort Myers, Florida, descended into shocking chaos this past Saturday, culminating in the arrest of a mother accused of attacking a child on the field.
Renee Lambert now faces charges of child abuse and resisting an officer after authorities say she ran onto the playing field during a Pop Warner game at Brooks Park and deliberately kicked a young player.
Deputies were already present at the park providing security when a fight erupted between players after a play. The situation quickly escalated when Lambert allegedly stormed the field, her actions captured on video.
Lambert claims she was struck with a helmet by a child, provoking her response. However, investigators state that evidence does not support her account of events.
Bodycam footage reveals a heated and profanity-filled exchange as deputies attempted to take Lambert into custody. The officer’s frustration is palpable as he attempts to explain the gravity of her actions.
"So you're mad at them for hitting me?" Lambert questioned. The officer’s reply was direct and condemning: "I’m mad at an adult for attacking a kid."
Lambert resisted arrest, repeatedly denying she was being detained and demanding officers locate a specific player – number nine. The officer calmly pointed out the absurdity of her request, stating, “You’re an adult.”
The footage concludes with a chaotic struggle as deputies worked to handcuff Lambert, the scene a stark illustration of the day’s disturbing events.
This incident comes just weeks after another Florida mother, Amanda Thorpe, was arrested in Orange County for allegedly leaving her 12-year-old daughter unattended at a bar while she went drinking at a different location.
Thorpe faces charges of child neglect, highlighting a troubling pattern of parental misjudgment and disregard for the safety of children in the state.
