EUROPE'S RIVERS ARE HIDING SECRETS—And They're About to Be REVEALED.

EUROPE'S RIVERS ARE HIDING SECRETS—And They're About to Be REVEALED.

Returning from France feels like stepping out of a dream. Early April in Paris unfolded with chestnut blossoms painting the city, following the joyous christenings of two remarkable riverboats and cherished time spent with partners, the Tauck family, and our Board.

The melody of Vernon Duke lingers in my thoughts, prompting a quiet reflection on those unforgettable moments. There’s a unique quality to Europe’s rivers, an invitation to contemplate life’s beauty in every ripple and current.

Sunlight dances on the water, each bend in the river revealing a new and unexpected vista. It’s a scene that has captivated artists for centuries – Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh – all striving to capture not just what they *saw*, but what they *felt*. That same inspiration resonated deeply during our recent celebrations.

The champagne bottle shattered against the hull of the ms Lumière in Lyon, a celebratory burst of energy. Then, the ms Serene gracefully sailed past the glittering Eiffel Tower towards the enchanting village of Les Andelys, each moment a precious gem I wish I could have shared.

I recall the radiant light flooding the newly designed atrium of the ms Lumière, bathed in the Lyon sunshine. The genuine warmth of the captain and crew, the lively atmosphere of Arthur’s – perfectly positioned to encourage conversation – and the inviting shimmer of the sun deck pool created an atmosphere of pure delight.

The tranquility of The Retreat, our new wellness area, offered a peaceful sanctuary as the river flowed by. And the reimagined Compass Rose presented thoughtfully selected wines, like a perfect Châteauneuf-du-Pape, expertly paired with each course.

In Les Andelys, the entire village gathered on a brilliant day, erupting in cheers and raising glasses as the ms Serene – a name so fitting – was christened. It was a moment of shared joy and genuine celebration.

These aren’t simply celebrations; they represent our vision for the future. While nothing compares to experiencing the river firsthand, I hope to convey the spirit of these moments.

With the launch of ms Lumière and ms Serene, we reaffirm our commitment to a distinctly Tauck river experience. Each ship is custom-designed in close collaboration with the Reitsma family of Scylla, partners who share our unwavering dedication to excellence.

Together, we meticulously consider every detail – how spaces foster connection, how service feels intuitive, and how each onboard moment enhances the journey ashore. This dedication is interwoven with over a century of Tauck destination expertise, connecting you to the heart of each region.

We connect you with local artisans and cultures, many of whom joined us for the christenings and eagerly await our guests. Every experience is thoughtfully curated, allowing you to be fully present, to absorb, and to reflect.

At Tauck, we believe “small is big.” This philosophy is most evident on our river cruises. Fewer guests allow for deeper connections, more attentive care, and richer, more immersive experiences.

With a Tauck Cruise Director and three Tauck Directors onboard, we maintain an exceptional guest-to-guide ratio, ensuring you are not only cared for, but truly understood. It’s a feeling that permeates every interaction – we travel as a family.

We are also evolving, with five new “Essence” journeys now available – shorter itineraries offering the same depth and care, providing greater flexibility. This, alongside our continued investment in new ships and onboard innovation, reflects our thoughtful expansion of our river portfolio.

As I shared during the christenings, our purpose at Tauck is to transform lives through travel. Even after countless visits to France, I discovered a renewed sense of wonder, delight, and awe. I returned home with a fresh collection of memories, new reflections, and cherished additions to my personal memory box.

Whether it’s a future April in Paris, a journey along the Seine or Rhône, or an exploration of the Danube, Rhine, or Douro, I hope you’ll join us.
