Sussex Police have cordoned off a section of Sillwood Street in Brighton after a man was tackled to the ground by members of the public.
Images from the scene show a section of the street cordoned off with police tape, while police officers can be seen talking and surveying the area.
A local resident was swiftly subdued and his knife was seized by members of the public, averting what could have been a more serious incident.
Detective Inspector Jen Pietersen stated that the incident was distressing for those in the vicinity and promised increased police presence in the area.
Neighbourhood policing officers have been deployed to provide visible patrols in the area, and residents are encouraged to speak with them if they have any concerns.
The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and cooperate with their investigation.
