Rock legends Metallica have made a significant donation to Cardiff Foodbank, helping to replenish their stocks and support the thousands of people who rely on their services.
The Grammy-winning band donated a whopping £20,000 through their foundation, All Within My Hands, in a move that has been hailed as their 'largest celebrity donation' to the charity. This generous contribution will provide approximately 9,000 meals, helping to meet the demand for food assistance across the eight centres in the city.
Cardiff Foodbank CEO Rachel Biggs expressed her gratitude for the donation, stating that it will make a significant difference in replenishing their empty shelves. The charity had previously received a donation from Taylor Swift, who also made unpublicised donations to around 1,400 food banks and local charities during her Eras Tour in 2024.
Rachel highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the charity, citing a 27% drop in food donations and increased demand for their services. The donation from Metallica will help to alleviate these pressures and provide a much-needed boost to the charity's running costs, which sit at around £700,000 per year.
Metallica's donation has also helped to raise the profile of the charity and mobilise their fans and the local community to support their cause. Volunteer Eddie Cawston, a big fan of the band, praised their gesture, stating that it shows 'people who can make a difference are prepared to make a difference'.
Metallica's philanthropic efforts are part of their ongoing commitment to giving back to their fans and the communities they visit. Their foundation, All Within My Hands, aims to provide support to various charities and food banks around the world, and their collaboration with the Welsh Blood Service will encourage fans to donate blood and plasma during their upcoming gigs in Wales.
