Senator John Fetterman renewed a threat to leave the Democratic Party during a Sunday television appearance, while also sharply criticizing President Trump over remarks on election integrity.
The Pennsylvania Democrat was asked about progressive candidates such as Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan and used the moment to condemn what he described as growing anti-Israel sentiment within the party.
Fetterman said sympathy for Palestinians is appropriate but argued the party has gone too far by labeling Israel a genocidal or apartheid state and opposing aid packages.
He warned that organizations once considered mainstream, including J Street, now oppose measures such as Iron Dome funding, a shift he called increasingly hostile toward a key U.S. ally.
When pressed on prior comments about exiting the party if it becomes "anti-Israel," Fetterman said such a stance would force a personal reckoning about his political alignment.
He clarified that a party switch would not change his own voting record, but insisted the party's trajectory on Israel could make his continued membership untenable.
Fetterman was later questioned about Trump's recent address asserting that 278,000 noncitizens had been found on voter rolls across four states reviewed.
The senator rejected the claim, stating he served as lieutenant governor during the 2020 election and remains confident it was secure, fair, and accurate.
He said he would reconsider his position only if evidence emerged of a quarter-million migrant voter registrations, but expects none will surface.
Fetterman urged the president to focus on current challenges rather than relitigating 2020, calling the rhetoric deeply unhelpful and a distraction from pressing issues such as the war in Iran.
