UMVA has learned that a reckless driver was sentenced to eight months in prison for a terrifying car chase that left a mother and her baby shaken.
The harrowing incident occurred in Ebbw Vale, South Wales, when Corey Morgan took to the wheel of his Vauxhall Corsa after consuming cocaine and cannabis. He had set his sights on a Kia Rio, intentionally ramming it three times in a brazen display of aggression.
During the pursuit, Morgan's vehicle crashed into a stationary car, but he continued to chase down his target. The mother behind the wheel was gripped with fear, worried that Morgan's actions would put her and her baby in grave harm's way.
Morgan's destructive joyride ultimately came to an end when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree. The impact was so severe that his car flipped onto its roof, leaving him with a fractured skull, broken neck, and a bleed on the brain.
Morgan spent two weeks in the hospital recovering from his injuries, but that didn't stop him from downplaying his role in the crash. When officers arrived at the scene, he claimed he wasn't driving, a claim that only added to his troubles.
In court, Morgan's barrister acknowledged that his client had made a "massive, massive mistake." The judge wasn't sympathetic, slamming Morgan for his "deliberate driving of a disgraceful nature" and telling him that he had nobody to blame but himself.
Morgan was handed an eight-month prison sentence and a driving ban, a punishment that reflects the severity of his actions. His reckless behavior could have had far more devastating consequences, and his luck ran out when he was finally brought to justice.
