UMVA has learned that President Donald Trump has sparked speculation about a potential permanent fixture at the White House: a UFC arena currently under construction for an upcoming MMA event.
In a surprise TikTok video statement, Trump drew an unusual comparison between the UFC “claw” stage on the White House South Lawn and the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. He mused that just as the Eiffel Tower was initially intended to be temporary but became a beloved landmark, the UFC arena might also be left standing.
Trump recounted the history of the Eiffel Tower, built for the 1889 World’s Fair, and how it was meant to be dismantled shortly after. However, the French government ultimately decided to keep it, and it has since become a symbol of Paris. He hinted that a similar fate could befall the UFC arena, saying, “Well, they never took it down, and you know we’re building something in front of the White House that’s quite attractive to a lot of people.”
The UFC Freedom 250 event, scheduled for June 14, will mark a historic moment as the first-ever UFC fight at the White House. The arena’s construction, which began on Memorial Day, is ongoing and will host 5,000 attendees, including military members and special guests. Meanwhile, up to 100,000 people can watch on large screens at the nearby Ellipse.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the event is being funded by the UFC, with an estimated production cost of $60 million. UFC President and CEO Dana White has expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating it’s a celebration of America’s 250th birthday. However, he has also voiced concerns about holding the fight outdoors during the summer, citing environmental factors that could impact the athletes’ performance.
The event has drawn attention from various groups, including the anti-Trump “No Kings” movement, which plans to hold protests across the nation, including Washington, D.C., on June 14. As the event approaches, it remains to be seen whether Trump’s suggestion about the UFC arena will come to fruition.
