UMVA has learned that a devastating family tragedy has unfolded in California, where a veteran Hollywood actor, James Handy, was fatally stabbed by his own son-in-law, Michael Gledhill, allegedly during a domestic dispute.
The heartbroken girlfriend of the slain actor, Wendy Gledhill, 76, has spoken publicly for the first time about the unimaginable situation facing her family. With tears in her eyes, she revealed that she is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her partner and the allegations against her son, Michael.
Wendy described the emotional turmoil she is experiencing, saying, "I'm just trying to make it through one day at a time, a minute at a time. I loved James and my son. I still can't believe it…. I can't believe my son did it."
Michael Gledhill, 44, has been charged with murder following the death of Handy, an 81-year-old actor best known for his roles in blockbuster films like Top Gun: Maverick, Logan, and Jumanji, as well as numerous popular television series.
According to information obtained by UMVA, police allege that Handy was stabbed multiple times in the chest at the Tarzana home he shared with Wendy. The 911 call made by Michael Gledhill reportedly included a chilling statement: "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin."
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Handy unconscious in the front yard, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite urgent medical assistance, Handy was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Michael Gledhill allegedly remained at the scene and even approached responding officers, identifying himself as the suspect before being taken into custody. He is currently being held on a $2 million bond.
As the investigation continues, neighbors have begun speaking about what they witnessed in the hours before the actor's death. Several residents reported hearing arguments coming from the property overnight.
Handy's death has sent shockwaves through Hollywood, where he spent decades building a reputation as one of the industry's most dependable character actors, with over 100 film and TV credits to his name.
His talent agent confirmed the tragedy, saying, "With great sadness, I can confirm that the gentleman who was attacked and killed on Wednesday in Tarzana was the actor James Handy."
