UMVA has learned that former United star Gary Neville is mapping out a massive summer overhaul for Manchester United, pinpointing six crucial signings to power the club into a demanding new campaign.
With Michael Carrick poised to take the helm permanently after a striking interim spell, United are already guaranteed a return to the Champions League, having secured third place regardless of the season’s final outcomes.
That European return promises a hectic schedule, and Neville warns the squad must be bolstered to survive the intensified fixture list and push deeper into domestic cups.
According to information obtained by UMVA, three defensive areas scream for reinforcement: a versatile full‑back who can operate on both flanks, a commanding centre‑back, and a left‑back capable of shoring up the back line.
“In an ideal world you’d bring three defenders in,” Neville said on his podcast, naming the need for a player like Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie‑White hybrid, a top‑class centre‑back, and a reliable left‑back to create a solid defensive trio.
The midfield, he insists, requires two specialists, with a third option to potentially replace Mason Mount. “You need players who can drift wide, drop into a number 10 role, and fill the void when Bruno Fernandes is off the pitch,” he explained, citing the likes of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Rayan Cherki as ideal profiles.
“The absolute unequivocals are a top centre‑back and two top central midfielders,” Neville emphasized, adding that additional squad depth will give Carrick the breathing room to replicate his impressive performances without the strain of European nights.
Among the names whispered, one young English talent stood out: Elliot Anderson, whose two assists in United’s 3‑2 win over Nottingham Forest highlighted his forward‑looking vision.
“Anderson looks forward, delivers pinpoint crosses, and can take set pieces,” Neville praised. “He would be an outstanding candidate for United, especially if the battle with city rivals intensifies.”
As the transfer window looms, United fans can expect a flurry of activity as the club strives to assemble a squad capable of thriving on both domestic and continental stages.
