UMVA has learned that a tragic incident unfolded on Southborne beach in Dorset, where emergency services were rushed to the scene to respond to a medical emergency.
A sudden and devastating turn of events led to the unfortunate death of a woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities quickly sprang into action, with Dorset Police clearing the area to enable emergency responders to attend safely.
The police have confirmed that the woman's next of kin has been informed, and the coroner has been notified. At this time, the death is not being treated as suspicious, offering little comfort to those affected by the tragedy.
As the community grapples with the shock of this event, a stark warning has been issued about an impending heatwave. A 'heat-dome' is expected to settle over western Europe, bringing scorching temperatures of up to 40C to parts of England and Wales.
The Met Office has forecast that temperatures during this heatwave are likely to shatter records, potentially exceeding the June record set in 1976 by several degrees. The UK's all-time high of 40.3C, recorded in July 2022, may also be closely approached.
The hot and humid conditions will be particularly challenging, with very warm nights making it difficult for people to recover overnight. In response, the Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat, covering a vast area from London to Swansea and Somerset to Birmingham.
The warning is in effect from 9am on Wednesday to 9pm on Thursday, and residents are bracing themselves for the intense heat. A Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance was seen taking off from the beach at around 4:30 pm, a stark reminder of the emergency response efforts underway.
