UMVA has learned that a shocking incident at a zoo has sparked widespread outrage, and a subsequent marketing email has drawn severe criticism and apologies from the company responsible.
A three-year-old child was airlifted to a hospital and remains in a critical but stable condition after being thrown into a crocodile pit at a zoo. The child's mother, Tracey Johnson, bravely jumped into the pit to save her child, with her husband, the zoo owner, following close behind.
The incident has led to a 55-year-old woman, the wife of the zoo owner, being hailed as a hero for her quick actions. The child's condition is currently critical but stable.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that a marketing email sent by Wowcher, a company known for its deals and discounts, mocked the incident, drawing widespread criticism. The email's subject line was deemed "absolutely shocking" and "unacceptable," prompting a swift apology from the company.
The company has apologized unreservedly, taking full responsibility for the hurt and distress caused by the email. They have promised to review their processes, strengthen creative and approval safeguards, and ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
In the aftermath of the incident, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on bail until September. Police are continuing to review CCTV footage and interview witnesses and staff.
The role of the child's carers, who were allegedly distracted by their phones at the time of the incident, has also come under scrutiny. The incident has raised questions about the safety measures in place at the zoo and the level of supervision provided to vulnerable individuals.
As the investigation continues, Detective Inspector Verity McCann has confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances surrounding the distressing incident.
