UMVA has learned that Arsenal is set to accelerate their interest in signing Morgan Rogers, one of the most in-demand players in Europe, as they bid to win the transfer race.
The new Premier League champions are reportedly confident they can see off competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea, who are also keen on signing the talented midfielder.
Rogers, who has been impressive for Aston Villa, could operate on Arsenal's left flank or in a more central role, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says he is 'quite keen' on the transfer, with the deal reportedly 'advanced' on the player's side.
However, Arsenal still need to reach an agreement with Aston Villa, who are reportedly demanding at least £100m for the midfielder, making the deal a complex and potentially costly one.
Arsenal and England midfielder Declan Rice has been working to persuade Rogers to move to the Emirates Stadium, adding a personal touch to the Gunners' pursuit of the talented young player.
Despite his admiration for Rogers, Jermaine Jenas has questioned Arsenal's move, suggesting it 'makes no sense' unless players are set to leave the champions, warning that Rogers might end up sitting on the bench.
Jenas argued that Rogers is currently a key player for Aston Villa, playing week-in, week-out, and is about to go into the Champions League off the back of a good World Cup, making a strong case for him to stay put.
Arsenal's interest in Rogers comes as they also pursue other transfer targets, including Argentina striker Julian Alvarez, while they are also ready to sanction exits for some of their current players, including Leandro Trossard, who has received a £17m offer.
