's GREATEST Games REVEALED: You NEED to Play These NOW!

The year 2025 delivered a surprising mix of titles, some exceeding expectations while others stumbled just short of greatness. It wasn’t a year of revolutionary leaps, but rather a collection of experiences that offered unique pleasures and, occasionally, a touch of disappointment.

Donkey Kong Bananzastarted strong, delivering the mechanics fans craved. The initial levels were inspired and engaging, but a creeping sense of repetition began to surface. While still a worthwhile experience, particularly for new hardware owners, the game would have benefited from fewer, larger levels designed to encourage deeper exploration.

Mario Kart Worldproved a pleasant surprise, surpassing even the belovedMario Kart 8. The visual upgrade was immediately apparent, and the new Knockout Tour mode was a genuine highlight, amplified by the increased player count. The blend of point-to-point races and traditional lap structures kept things fresh, though a more detailed map for free roam would have been a welcome addition.

Initially purchased for its visual fidelity,Ghost Of Yōteiquickly became a captivating experience. Beyond its stunning graphics, the game offered a surprisingly compelling narrative and addictive gameplay loop. While perhaps a bit safe and lacking in bold innovation, the engaging characters and satisfying combat kept me hooked for hours, even earning a rare platinum trophy.

The true value ofGhost Of Yōteilay in its ability to draw you into its world. I found myself invested in the protagonist’s journey, compelled to uncover every collectible and complete each side quest. And at a mere £35, followed by a £30 resale, it proved to be an astonishingly affordable 50 hours of entertainment.

But the most unexpected gem of 2025 was undoubtedlyDispatch. It defies easy categorization, existing somewhere between a traditional video game and interactive entertainment. Its passive nature might deter some, but the strength of its characters, witty dialogue, and exceptional voice acting and animation created an unforgettable experience.

The characters inDispatchweren’t heroes or villains, but flawed, relatable individuals. Their stories unfolded with a captivating blend of humor and pathos, drawing me in and keeping me invested. It’s a testament to the power of strong writing and compelling character development.

Looking ahead to 2026, the anticipation builds. It’s a year that promises new challenges and, hopefully, even more surprising delights. The review of 2026, however, will have to wait until early 2027.
