UMVA has learned that Tottenham Hotspur is eyeing a major coup in the transfer market, with Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya emerging as a top target for the North London club.
The 21-year-old French talent has been turning heads with his electrifying pace and skill on the pitch, and Spurs are keen to bring him to their squad as they look to revamp their team after a disappointing 17th-place finish in each of the last two seasons.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Bahoya was previously on Arsenal's radar, but the Gunners were deterred by Frankfurt's hefty valuation of over £60m. However, with the German club now willing to sell for a significantly lower price, Spurs see an opportunity to snap up the talented youngster.
Bahoya's impressive stats include clocking the fastest speed in the Bundesliga since records began in the 2011/12 season, with a blistering 23.09 mph (37.16 km/h) against Bochum last year. Despite not having produced great returns in terms of goals, his pace and skill make him an attractive prospect for Spurs.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Frankfurt is looking to offload several players, including Bahoya, after finishing eighth in the Bundesliga and missing out on European football. The German club is reportedly willing to sell Bahoya for a modest €35-40m (£30-34.5m), making him a potentially shrewd signing for Spurs.
Spurs are not the only club interested in Bahoya, but they are believed to be at the forefront of the chase. With Roberto De Zerbi keen to strengthen his squad, Bahoya could be the first of several new signings for the North London club this summer.
Tottenham has already made some savvy signings this summer, including Andy Robertson joining on a free transfer from Liverpool and Marcos Senesi expected to follow suit imminently. The club is also working hard on a deal for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, but has seen two bids turned down already.
