For more than three decades,Friendshas been the ultimate comfort watch—236 episodes spanning ten seasons that turned Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and the late Matthew Perry into icons.
But one fiery debate has haunted fans for 29 years: Were Rachel and Ross really "on a break"?
Now, Phoebe Buffay herself—Lisa Kudrow—has finally answered the question that split living rooms across the globe.
Appearing onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 62-year-old actress didn't hesitate. "Well, no," she said, as the live audience gasped.
"But it's beyond that," Kudrow continued. "It's beyond 'break or not.' He was a bad boyfriend."
The crowd erupted in cheers as she laid it all bare. "She shouldn't have gotten back together with him, because he was horrible."
"To me, it's like, I don't care if he slept with three other women or no other women. You had a crisis at work, so you weren't available for a few nights, and he flipped out? Wow."
When Fallon asked if she'd ever discussed this with David Schwimmer (Ross), Kudrow just smiled. Fallon turned to the audience and said, "He knows now."
But Kudrow didn't stop there. She peeled back the curtain on what really happened behind the scenes of the beloved sitcom.
In a separate interview, she revealed thatFriendswriters used to "stay up late discussing sexual fantasies" about Aniston and Cox.
"There was definitely mean stuff going on behind the scenes," Kudrow admitted. She recalled how writers would explode if a joke didn't land during tapings in front of a live audience.
"If you messed up one of these writers' lines or it didn't get the perfect response they could be like, 'Can't the bitch fucking read? She's not even trying.'"
The cast knew about the late-night conversations, even if the writers kept them out of earshot. "We know that back in the room the guys would be up late discussing their sexual fantasies about Jennifer and Courteney. It was intense."
