UMVA has learned that veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton has been handed a new contract at Manchester United, a move that underscores his influential role at the club.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper, who has earned three caps for England, initially joined Manchester United as a teenager but made his name playing for other clubs, including Cardiff, Bristol City, Burnley, and Aston Villa. His return to Old Trafford in 2021 was a surprise, and since then, he has served as a backup to various first-choice goalkeepers.
Despite limited playing time, with only three appearances in the last five seasons, Heaton has been hailed as a brilliant influence at the club. His leadership and professionalism have been particularly valuable to young goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who joined from Royal Antwerp last year.
