A violent incident unfolded last week at a local store, resulting in the tragic death of a 44-year-old manager, Alexis Hill. The suspect, 33-year-old Jerome Willis, approached the checkout counter on June 23 to purchase a pair of hamburger buns. He handed Hill two crumpled $1 bills, but the transaction took a deadly turn when Hill straightened out the money, seemingly upsetting Willis.
Willis pulled out a handgun and shot Hill, who was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:45 a.m. Following the murder, Willis fled, leading police on a manhunt. He was located about three hours later, but resisted arrest, prompting officers to deploy a K-9 unit to apprehend him.
As the K-9 officer approached, Willis pulled out a gun and shot at the police dog and other officers. The police responded with gunfire, killing Willis. A police officer was injured and treated at a hospital before being released. The police dog, named Havoc, was also injured and underwent surgery before being airlifted to an emergency hospital.
Havoc is now recovering from surgery. The incident has left a community in shock, with Hill's family mourning her loss. Hill leaves behind three children and two grandchildren. Her brother, Johnathan Hill, expressed the family's grief, stating that she "can't be replaced" and that her loss will be a difficult one to deal with.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the officer-involved shooting. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement and the devastating consequences of violent crime.
