UMVA has learned that Real Madrid is preparing to make a splash in the transfer market this summer, with a potential bid for highly sought-after midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Fernandez, the 25-year-old Argentina international, has been linked to a departure from Chelsea after a tumultuous season at Stamford Bridge. His impressive form, which included a career-best 15 goals last season, has caught the attention of several top clubs.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Chelsea is holding out for a hefty £120million transfer fee, a significant profit from the £106.8m they paid Benfica for Fernandez in January 2023. This could be a major stumbling block for Real Madrid, who will need to spend big to secure his services.
Real Madrid is not the only club vying for Fernandez's signature, with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City also reported to be interested. Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who is set to take over at Manchester City, is particularly keen on reuniting with Fernandez, his former player.
Maresca's Manchester City are yet to finalize their deal with Chelsea, with negotiations over compensation still ongoing. Fernandez himself has expressed admiration for Madrid, fuelling speculation about a potential move to the Spanish giants.
Fernandez's comments about his departure from Chelsea and Maresca's dismissal have not gone unnoticed. In an interview, he expressed his disappointment, saying, 'I don't understand it... Sometimes as a player, there's things we don't understand and the way they try to manage things.'
With several top clubs circling, Fernandez's future at Chelsea is uncertain. One thing is clear, however: if Real Madrid wants to secure his services, they will need to be prepared to meet Chelsea's hefty valuation.
