SARA COX TAKES OVER RADIO 2 – AND BRINGS THE GIRLS!

SARA COX TAKES OVER RADIO 2 – AND BRINGS THE GIRLS!

Sara Cox is living a dream. The celebrated DJ and presenter has been named the new host of BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, a role she’s openly coveted for years. The announcement sparked a joyful celebration with her closest friends, a moment captured and shared with heartfelt gratitude.

A simple photo – Cox and two friends raising sparkling cider – spoke volumes. It wasn’t just about a new job; it was about decades of unwavering support. She publicly thanked Melanie Rockcliffe and Megan Carver, acknowledging their presence through triumphs and challenges, their ability to “cheer me on or pick me up & dust me down.”

The outpouring of support from fellow broadcasters was immediate. Presenter Nicki Chapman offered congratulations, while Julia Bradbury playfully acknowledged the daunting early mornings ahead. Fans echoed the sentiment, expressing excitement for a bright start to their day with Cox at the helm.

Cox herself described the feeling as “ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed.” This wasn’t simply a career move; it felt like a natural progression, a homecoming to a show she’d long envisioned herself leading. She confessed to a moment of stunned silence when the offer arrived, playfully wondering if it was simply to quiet her energetic personality.

Despite the excitement, Cox made it clear how much she cherished her previous role hosting the Teatime show. Seven years of “golden” memories and a connection with a uniquely brilliant audience were not taken lightly. She playfully pleaded with listeners to join her for Breakfast, even jokingly offering a small reward for their loyalty.

The transition won’t be seamless. Cox acknowledged she’s “not allowed” to continue both shows, and anticipates a worthy successor will soon take the Teatime reins. But for now, she’s focused on savoring the remaining moments with her current listeners before embarking on this new chapter.

While a precise start date remains unconfirmed, the BBC has announced Cox will begin hosting the Breakfast Show this summer. Gary Davies and OJ Borg have been filling the slot in the interim, following a period of change within the program.

Sara Cox’s career spans three decades, a remarkable journey that began with a surprising turn in the world of modeling. Leaving school after A-levels, she ventured to South Korea, but homesickness and a candid assessment from an agent – “You got too fat, you’ve got to go home!” – quickly redirected her path.

Her broadcasting career ignited in 1996 with Channel 4’s *The Girlie Show*, followed by roles on MTV and *The Big Breakfast*, where she became known for her engaging “on the bed” interviews with stars like Robbie Williams and Leonardo DiCaprio. She then transitioned to the BBC, eventually taking the reins of the Radio 1 Breakfast show in 2000.

Cox’s versatility extends beyond radio. She’s hosted *The Great Pottery Show Down* and charmed audiences on *The Great Celebrity Bake Off* and *Britain’s Top Takeaways*. Her commitment to charitable causes is equally impressive, raising over £1.2 million for Comic Relief with a 24-hour 80s dance marathon and exceeding £9.5 million for Children in Need with a grueling 135-mile marathon.

She’s also stepped into the spotlight as the BBC’s face of the Eurovision Song Contest, building on her experience commentating on the semi-finals. From modeling to music television to primetime radio and television, Sara Cox’s career is a testament to her talent, resilience, and unwavering enthusiasm.

Before broadcasting, however, she briefly navigated the world of high fashion. A youthful foray into international modeling led to an unexpected, and brutally honest, critique. The experience, though initially disheartening, ultimately paved the way for a far more fulfilling career.

Her early work included a memorable appearance in Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s 1993 music video for “Everyday” and a provocative image for the 1995 video game *WipEout*, covered in simulated blood. These early experiences, though diverse, foreshadowed a career defined by bold choices and a captivating presence.
