ICE DEPORTS 86-YEAR-OLD WIDOW OF WAR HERO!

ICE DEPORTS 86-YEAR-OLD WIDOW OF WAR HERO!

The news arrived like a cruel twist of fate, just weeks after Marie-Thérèse Ross laid her husband, Billy, to rest. A US veteran, Billy had been the rekindled flame of a youthful romance, a connection forged decades earlier when he was stationed in France. Now, Marie-Thérèse, an elderly French widow, found herself facing a different kind of captivity – arrested by immigration authorities in Alabama.

Her family paints a harrowing picture of the arrest: handcuffs biting into her wrists and ankles, a descent into an overcrowded detention center. They fear for her well-being, desperately concerned about her existing heart and back problems. The contrast is stark – a woman who sought only to spend her final years with the man she loved, treated as a threat.

Homeland Security officials classify Marie-Thérèse as an “illegal alien,” stating she overstayed her visa after arriving in 2025. But her story isn’t one of calculated defiance. It’s a tale of a late-life reunion, a hopeful journey to build a life with Billy after decades apart. Her green card application, the key to legal residency, remained unresolved at the time of his passing.

PORTLAND, OREGON - OCTOBER 06: Federal agents, including members of the Department of Homeland Security, the Border Patrol, and police officers, attempt to keep protesters back outside a downtown U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on October 06, 2025 in Portland, Oregon. The facility has become a focal point of nightly protests against the Trump administration and his announcement that he will be sending National Guard troops into Portland. Transferred to a facility in Louisiana, Marie-Thérèse’s health is rapidly deteriorating, according to her family. Her son, speaking to French media, expressed his anguish, describing the indignity of her treatment and fearing she won’t survive a month in such harsh conditions. Their immediate plea is for her repatriation, a return to the comfort and care of her homeland.

The US government, however, offers a stark alternative: $2,600 and a free flight for voluntary deportation. They frame it as an opportunity to return “the right legal way,” a chilling proposition for a woman whose only desire is to find peace after a lifetime of love and loss. The offer feels less like assistance and more like a demand for self-exile.

Marie-Thérèse’s case isn’t isolated. It’s part of a disturbing trend of increased immigration enforcement, impacting even those with deep ties to the United States. Seamus Culleton, an Irish man living in Boston for over twenty years, experienced a similar ordeal.

Despite having a US citizen wife, a valid work permit, and a pending green card application, Seamus was arrested by ICE agents. Now, five months into his detention in a Texas facility, he describes a living nightmare – psychological and physical torture, shared tents crammed with dozens of people, and a desperate longing to return to his family. He fears for his future, and the dream of starting a family feels increasingly distant.

Seamus’s account reveals the brutal reality within these facilities: cramped conditions, dwindling health, and a profound sense of hopelessness. He shares a 16x35ft tent with 72 other detainees, a testament to the overcrowding and dehumanizing environment. His story, like Marie-Thérèse’s, underscores the human cost of increasingly stringent immigration policies.

These cases ignite a growing tension, raising questions about compassion, fairness, and the very definition of the American dream. They are stories of lives disrupted, families torn apart, and the enduring struggle for dignity in the face of bureaucratic indifference.
