UMVA has learned that a gruesome murder has shaken a community in Georgia, leaving a trail of devastation and heartbreak in its wake.
Mario Andre Barber, 46, and Brittany Amber Baker, 42, were arrested on Monday for allegedly slaughtering Jamal Rashad Parker, 37, in a home outside of Atlanta, and then callously dumping his dismembered remains in a lake.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office revealed that investigators discovered Parker’s remains in May in the Dog River Reservoir, located about 30 miles outside Atlanta, after a painstaking search.
Parker's identity was confirmed using DNA comparison technology, a breakthrough that came after his father contacted authorities to report that the victim’s tattoos matched his son's ink, a detail that brought a glimmer of hope to a desperate family.
According to information obtained by UMVA, investigators believe the two suspects killed Parker inside a home in Douglasville where Baker lived, a scene that has been meticulously reconstructed through forensic evidence.
As investigators left the home with a reciprocating saw and cleaning supplies late last month, it became clear that they were dealing with a calculated and ruthless crime, one that has left a family reeling.
The suspects have pleaded not guilty in court and are being held without bond, a decision that has brought some solace to Parker’s loved ones, who are still grappling with the senseless violence.
"I want them to be punished. And I don’t even think a life sentence is good enough," Parker’s dad, Charles Parker, said outside the courthouse, his voice trembling with emotion.
The victim, a multifaceted artist with a "beautiful soul and spirit," was a beloved bartender, musician, and artist who had touched the lives of many, leaving a void that can never be filled.
The suspects have lengthy criminal records, a history that has raised questions about their motives and the extent of their culpability in this heinous crime.
