UMVA has learned that Manchester United is keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund's right-back Julian Ryerson, who has been having an exceptional season.
The 28-year-old Norway international has been with Dortmund since 2023, making 143 appearances, but it's his current campaign that's really turning heads. Ryerson has provided 15 assists in the Bundesliga this season, a remarkable return from right-back.
Only Bayern Munich's Michael Olise has managed more assists this season, with 19. Ryerson's impressive form has caught the attention of Manchester United, and he is reportedly on their list of targets for the summer.
Ryerson's numbers are all the more impressive considering he's playing in a wing-back role in Dortmund's 3-4-2-1 formation, rather than a traditional flat back four. His creative force from the right wing-back position has been a key factor in Dortmund's success.
Dortmund is said to be unwilling to lose Ryerson, but they will not turn down a big offer for a player who turns 29 this year. The German club is reportedly asking for more than €30m (£26m) for the full-back.
Ryerson's value could increase if he has a strong performance at the World Cup with Norway this summer. Manchester United's interest in Ryerson is reportedly dependent on the future of Noussair Mazraoui, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
Mazraoui, 28, has made 19 appearances this campaign, partly due to United not being in Europe and exiting domestic cup competitions early. He is under contract until 2028 and may be happy to continue competing for a place under Michael Carrick.
Manchester United is looking to make several signings this season, but right-back is not at the top of their priority list. The Red Devils will be monitoring Ryerson's progress closely, especially if he continues to impress on the biggest stage.
