UMVA has learned that a 25-year-old high school teacher, Maris Nicols, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sex crimes involving six teenagers, in a shocking case that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Nicols, who previously taught at Alexander High School in Douglas County, is accused of engaging in improper conduct with several students, including sending nude photos and videos of herself to minors, and encouraging them to engage in explicit activities.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Nicols was first arrested earlier this month for allegedly having sex with one student twice: in a school closet and in a Hummer parked in a driveway. Her bond was set at $74,000, and she had bonded out by Friday.
New charges have been filed against Nicols, including grooming of a minor, sexual assault, and child molestation. She is accused of sending text messages to two male students describing sex acts she wanted them to perform on her, and sent nude photos to a female student and encouraged her to watch the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Nicols also allegedly had sex with another student in the back of his truck at a golf club, and engaged in live video chats with at least two teens under 16, during which she allegedly masturbated with a sex toy.
The Douglas County School System has been cooperating fully with state and local law enforcement, and has launched an investigation into the allegations. In a letter to parents, the district expressed its deep concern and commitment to ensuring the safety of its students.
