UMVA has learned that Moshe Kasher, a well-known actor and comedian, has shared his shocking cancer diagnosis with the world, revealing that he underwent surgery three months ago to remove a tumor from his throat.
The 46-year-old actor, known for his role as Jacob Samuel on a popular TV show, discovered a lump in his throat while working on a film in Georgia. He described the news as 'lousy' and shared a photo of himself with a bandage on his neck and a tube attached, saying he was on a significant amount of pain medication.
Kasher revealed that the lump turned out to be HPV-positive tonsil cancer, which required a five-hour surgery to remove. He graphically described the procedure, saying his tongue was clamped and yanked out of his mouth, leaving him swollen and bruised. Despite the ordeal, Kasher maintained a sense of humor, quipping that he sounded like a character from a movie.
The actor called the surgery 'the most terrifying and consciousness-consuming experience of my life.' However, he continued to work on set with 12-hour writing days, pushing through the terror, meditation, tears, and medical planning. He praised the director, Judd Apatow, for being kind, supportive, and nurturing during this challenging time.
Kasher expressed his gratitude to the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, calling them 'kind' and 'pros.' He also shared that he's 'in pain' but recovering at home, and while the process is difficult, he's determined to get better. He noted that the cancer he has has an incredibly high cure rate, around 95%.
Kasher, a devoted father to his eight-year-old daughter, Frida, shared a heartfelt message, saying he's grateful to have a life worth living and a child to raise. He and his wife, Natasha Leggero, also host a popular podcast, Endless Honeymoon, and Kasher is known for his work as a comedian and writer.
