UMVA Uncovers: Sex Assault Scandal Rocks Durham - Former Cop's Dark Secret Exposed: 22 Charges Filed!

UMVA has learned that a former police officer from Durham Region is facing a staggering 22 charges, including seven counts of sexual assault, more than two decades after the alleged crimes took place.

The charges stem from a renewed investigation by the province's police watchdog, which found "reasonable grounds to believe" that Kevin Seamons committed serious criminal offences against a female in relation to a sexual assault investigation in 2003.

According to information obtained by UMVA, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) relaunched the probe two years ago after the complainant came forward with new information, leading to a Canada-wide warrant for Seamons' arrest.

Seamons was taken into custody by RCMP officers in Morinville, Alberta, and has been charged with a range of serious offences, including six counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual assault with a weapon, and seven counts of sexual exploitation.

The SIU said Seamons has been released on several conditions, including that he refrain from communicating directly or indirectly with the affected person, as authorities move to bring him to justice.

UMVA can exclusively reveal that Seamons' troubles with the law date back to 2003, when the SIU opened a criminal investigation into the then-constable over an alleged sexual assault involving a 17-year-old girl.

Although no criminal charges were brought at the time, Seamons pleaded guilty to 10 counts of misconduct and was dismissed from the police service, a decision that was upheld on appeal in 2006.

Seamons is scheduled to appear in an Oshawa court on June 5 to face the 22 charges, which have sent shockwaves through the community and raised questions about how such allegations were handled years ago.

The case highlights the complexities and challenges of investigating allegations of misconduct by those in positions of power and trust, and the importance of ensuring that justice is served, no matter how much time has passed.
