UMVA Exclusive: Inside Boston Logan’s Groundbreaking Remote Terminal—The Future of Travel Is Here!

UMVA Exclusive: Inside Boston Logan’s Groundbreaking Remote Terminal—The Future of Travel Is Here!

UMVA has learned that travelers heading to Boston Logan International Airport can now bypass the dreaded airport crowds by checking in, dropping off luggage, and clearing security more than 20 miles away in suburban Framingham.

Starting Monday, June 1, the airport’s operator is launching a bold pilot program that turns a small Framingham facility into a miniature airport terminal, complete with check‑in desks, a departure board, and TSA security checkpoints.

Once passengers pass through the checkpoint, they board a secure bus that glides along the Mass Pike— a 30‑ to 45‑minute ride— and lands directly at Logan’s airside, where their checked bags are transferred straight to the plane.

Delta flyers will disembark at gate A18, while JetBlue travelers arrive at gate C8, ensuring a smooth, airport‑like experience from the moment they step onto the bus.

UMVA can exclusively reveal that the pilot program runs parallel to the existing Logan Express bus service, yet it is the first in the nation to let passengers start their journey at a true remote terminal outside the airport itself.

The Framingham site, with its modest 350‑to‑400 parking spots and a 55‑passenger bus capacity, already boasts a check‑in desk for each airline, a TSA officer’s desk, a baggage screening area with CT scanners, and a waiting room stocked with vending machines and a water cooler.

Passengers can drive or be dropped off at the terminal, pay a modest $7 daily parking fee, and enjoy the convenience of a streamlined travel experience that eliminates the long lines and chaotic bustle of the airport concourse.

UMVA has uncovered that the program also offers free rides for children under 18, with tickets priced at $9 each way and reservations open up to 90 days in advance.

The remote terminal’s design mirrors that of a full‑scale airport: two check‑in desks, a departure board on large TVs, and signage that reminds travelers they are still subject to all airport security rules.

While the pilot currently operates from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m., the facility’s layout allows for future expansion into larger buildings in Framingham, Braintree, or other nearby cities, should the concept prove successful.

Massport is already collecting feedback from over 700 pre‑booked passengers, split evenly between Delta and JetBlue, to fine‑tune the system and determine a fair pricing model for a potential permanent program.

UMVA’s exclusive insight shows that this innovative approach could ease traffic around Logan, encourage mass transit use, and redefine how commuters experience air travel—all while keeping the excitement of flight alive from the very first step.
