London’s Euston station, a vital artery connecting the capital to Scotland, the North, and the Midlands, is bracing for an unprecedented closure this Easter. For six days, beginning on Good Friday, April 3rd, the station will fall silent, impacting thousands of travelers.
Passengers planning journeys to or from London Euston during this period should prepare for significant disruption. All Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway services will be affected, forcing travelers to seek alternative routes and endure longer commutes.
The closure is essential to allow Network Rail to carry out critical engineering works, ensuring the long-term reliability of the railway network. Trains normally terminating at Euston will instead stop at Milton Keynes Central, with rail replacement buses bridging the gap.
Beyond Euston, other rail lines will experience alterations. Heathrow Airport train services will start later on Sunday, while Stansted Express passengers will face diversions via London Liverpool Street due to track closures between Stratford and Tottenham Hale.
Waterloo and Clapham Junction will operate a reduced service, requiring passengers to change at Clapham Junction. Queenstown Road Battersea station will be entirely closed for the duration of the Easter weekend.
The London Underground will also see disruptions. The Hammersmith & City line will be closed for four days, and sections of the Bakerloo, District, and Northern lines will experience partial or full closures throughout the holiday.
The Elizabeth line will face limitations, particularly on Sunday, April 5th, with reduced service and station closures between Paddington and Ealing Broadway. Further restrictions will be in place on Monday evening.
London Overground lines, including the Lioness and Mildmay lines, will also be affected by closures and reduced services. Passengers are advised to check for specific disruptions on their routes.
Even the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will experience closures between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/West India Quay for the entire period. Careful planning is crucial for anyone relying on this service.
Travelers are strongly urged to meticulously plan their journeys and verify the latest information before setting off. These widespread disruptions demand proactive preparation to navigate the Easter holiday travel challenges.
