WWE PURGE: 23 Superstars AXED – Wrestling ERUPTS!

WWE PURGE: 23 Superstars AXED – Wrestling ERUPTS!

The wrestling world was shaken just days after WrestleMania, as WWE announced sweeping roster cuts impacting stars across all its brands. Twenty-two wrestlers were informed of their releases in a move that sent shockwaves through the industry and left fans reeling.

Among those let go were established names like Kairi Sane, a celebrated performer known for her dynamic in-ring style, and Aleister Black, who had recently returned to the company. The entire Wyatt Sicks faction – a group built around the legacy of the late Bray Wyatt – was also dissolved, releasing Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy, Dexter Lumis, Nikki Cross, and Bo Dallas.

The cuts weren’t limited to main roster talent. Zelina Vega, Apollo Crews, and the veteran tag team the Motor City Machine Guns were also impacted. Even Zoey Stark, recently cleared to return from injury, received notice. For NXT performers, the timeline for finding new opportunities is shorter, with a 30-day contract period compared to the 90 days afforded to those on Raw and SmackDown.

The Wyatt Sicks had been a poignant tribute to Bray Wyatt, who tragically passed away in 2023. His brother, Bo Dallas, embraced the role of Uncle Howdy, carrying forward Wyatt’s enigmatic persona. The faction’s recent rivalry with Solo Sikoa and the MFT group had culminated in a brutal Street Fight at WrestleMania weekend, but it wasn’t enough to secure their future.

Many of those released had recently been brought back into the fold, adding to the surprise. The Motor City Machine Guns and Zelina Vega had both rejoined WWE within the last eighteen months, while Aleister Black’s return a year ago had been met with enthusiasm. These decisions felt particularly jarring to fans and industry observers.

The news sparked an outpouring of emotion from within the wrestling community. Nikki Cross expressed gratitude for her time with WWE and excitement for the future, thanking mentors Robbie Brookside and William Regal. Zelina Vega acknowledged the personal losses she’d faced, but emphasized the unwavering support of her fans.

Current WWE stars also weighed in, describing the day as “heartbreaking” and the “worst time of the year.” Rhea Ripley voiced her support for her friends and comrades, urging them to prove their doubters wrong. Chelsea Green championed Kairi Sane’s talent, believing this was only the beginning for her.

The releases, while difficult, open doors for these performers to explore opportunities elsewhere. AEW, TNA Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and the independent circuit all represent potential landing spots for these skilled athletes. The wrestling world is filled with talent, and these individuals are now poised to showcase their abilities on a new stage.
