Michael Ward appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court to face multiple charges of rape and sexual assault involving a single woman, with the alleged incidents occurring in January 2023.
The alleged victim first met Ward at an all‑white party held at the Infinity Lounge nightclub in Gants Hill on 1 January. After exchanging Snapchat usernames, she was invited by Ward to sit in the back of a friend’s Mercedes as the venue emptied around 2:30 am.
While in the car, the pair kissed on the lips, and the woman reportedly consented to vaginal touching before being asked to join an after‑party in Stratford.
At the Stratford venue, the woman and two friends attended briefly but left early after sensing an uncomfortable atmosphere dominated by male attendees.
Outside the venue, Ward approached the woman, suggested she walk to a nearby car, and instructed her not to speak to anyone en route. She entered his vehicle, he kissed her again, and invited her to move to the back seat.
According to the prosecution, Ward grew impatient when the woman initially limited contact to a kiss in the front seat, then proceeded to kiss her breasts. She objected, stating she did not want to continue, after which Ward allegedly penetrated her vagina and anus with his fingers.
The woman attempted to exit the vehicle, but Ward reportedly ordered her to close the door. He is further accused of performing oral rape while pressuring her with coercive language.
Following the assault, Ward sent a message containing a teary‑eyed and heart emoji; the woman replied curtly, indicating she wanted him to enjoy the rest of his evening. She later experienced pain, ordered an STI testing kit, and marked on the form that she had been sexually assaulted.
Although she exchanged a few additional messages with Ward, the victim did not report the incident immediately, citing uncertainty about what had occurred and feeling unable to speak out because of Ward’s public profile.
In a prepared statement to police, Ward denied the allegations, asserting that any sexual activity was consensual foreplay and intercourse. He expressed confidence that the legal process would clear his name and declined further comment.
Ward was granted bail in August on the condition that he make no contact with the alleged victim. The actor is known for roles in several television series and films and received a rising‑star award in 2020, along with two nominations for best supporting actor.
