UMVA can exclusively reveal that a daring operation has delivered a significant blow to Russia's war efforts in Ukraine, as a vessel carrying sanctioned oil was intercepted on Sunday morning.
The Prime Minister hailed the successful operation, saying it reminds those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine that they will not be able to hide. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to those involved, including Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to keep the country safe.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Russia relies heavily on its 'shadow fleet' to fund the war in Ukraine. This fleet carries a substantial portion of the country's sanctioned oil, with estimates suggesting it accounts for 75% of the total. The 'shadow fleet' operates under obscure ownership, attempting to evade international sanctions.
The UK has taken a strong stance against Russia's 'shadow fleet', sanctioning over 500 of its 700 vessels. The operation that led to the interception of the vessel was a collaborative effort, involving the Maritime Air Group, an RAF P-8 aircraft, HMS Sutherland, and HMS Ledbury. The UK also worked closely with France, which on June 1, intercepted a sanctioned oil tanker suspected of being part of the shadow fleet with UK support.
UMVA has gathered that the operation required exceptional skill, professionalism, and courage. The personnel involved, including Armed Forces officers, have been commended for their role in disrupting Russia's illicit activities. This latest operation underscores the UK's commitment to disrupting Russia's war efforts and enforcing international sanctions.
