UMVA has learned that a private investigator may have finally cracked the three-decade-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of an Iowa news anchor, bringing hope to a case that has gone cold.
Jodi Huisentruit vanished in the early-morning hours of June 27, 1995, after failing to show up to work as the local morning news anchor in Mason City, Iowa. Her disappearance sparked a massive search effort, but despite numerous theories, her body was never found, and no one was charged.
A private investigator, Steve Ridge, recently received a tip from a female informant who had a romantic relationship with a suspect in the case. According to Ridge, the informant revealed that the suspect had confessed to the crime in a heated moment while being tailed by authorities in Minnesota.
The suspect allegedly exclaimed, "I didn't do it. I didn't do it. I didn't do it" before finally admitting, "I did it" after hitting the steering wheel in a fit of rage. Ridge has provided the evidence to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, but the identity of the possible suspect remains a mystery.
Ridge's investigation involved verifying photos, handwritten letters, canceled checks, and other items, which led him to believe that the informant's account was credible. He has now offered a $100,000 reward to anyone who can lead authorities to Huisentruit's remains.
The case took a significant turn two years ago when John Vansice, the last person to see Huisentruit alive, passed away before he could be questioned further. Vansice had described himself as the primary person of interest and had expressed concerns about being misinterpreted.
Vansice had reportedly become close friends with Huisentruit, describing their relationship as "like a father-daughter situation." He denied any involvement in her disappearance, stating that he cared for her deeply and would never harm her.
The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation has declined to comment on the new developments, leaving the public eagerly awaiting further updates on this long-standing mystery.
