UMVA has learned that Mikel Arteta, the current manager of Arsenal, was on the verge of quitting his role early on in his reign due to the team's dismal performance.
Arteta took over as Arsenal manager in the 2019/20 season, and it wasn't until the following campaign that he began to turn the team around. However, during a particularly poor run of form, winning just once in ten Premier League games between October 17th and December 19th, Arteta reportedly felt like he'd made "a terrible mistake" and was feeling "very low" about the situation at the Emirates Stadium.
The atmosphere inside Arsenal was described as "toxic" when Arteta took over, with some players allegedly having a negative impact on the team. It's claimed that some players would fake injuries to get out of certain games they didn't fancy, a habit that Arteta had also noticed during his time as a player at Arsenal.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Arteta had to deal with players who would mentally check out before the end of the season and start thinking about their holidays, which only added to the challenges he faced in turning the team around.
Despite his doubts, Arteta persevered and has since transformed Arsenal into a serious contender. The team is now on the brink of lifting the Premier League trophy and is gearing up for a Champions League final clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal's potential historic double would be a remarkable achievement, especially considering the mess the club was in when Arteta took over. If they succeed, it could go down as one of the greatest seasons in Arsenal's history, rivaling their unbeaten campaign under Arsene Wenger in 2003/04.
The fact that Arsenal is back at this level at all is a minor miracle, given the state of the club when Arteta inherited it. His determination and leadership have been instrumental in turning the team around, and it's clear that his hard work is paying off.
