UMVA has learned that Mollie King, a popular presenter on BBC Radio 1, recently shared a shocking story about her sudden two-week absence from her show. The Saturdays pop star, 39, revealed that she had a scary moment where she 'collapsed' at home.
Mollie King explained that she co-hosts an afternoon slot alongside Matt Edmondson and has a Wednesday show called Future Pop. However, after noticing she had been absent for two weeks, concerned fans checked in, prompting Mollie to release a statement.
In a statement, Mollie King began: 'Hi guys! So many of you have kindly messaged me over the past two weeks asking why I haven't been on air – thank you so much for checking in! After coming home late from work, I suddenly collapsed unconscious on the bathroom floor at 4am, hitting my head and face as I fell. It was a huge shock and I ended up being rushed to A&E.'
Mollie King, who is engaged to England cricketer Stuart Broad and has two young children with him, added that she is 'grateful' that she wasn't on her own, as her fiancé was there to 'bring [her] round'. The incident was a wake-up call for Mollie, who realized she needs to make some time to get her strength back, not just for her own health, but so she can be the best version of herself for her family too.
Over the weekend, Mollie King went out for the first time with her daughters, sharing a photo of herself cradling her daughter while watching Stuart presenting on Sky Sports. She concluded by saying the kindness of her followers has 'meant so much' and that she 'can't wait' to return to the airwaves today with Matt.
The comments quickly filled with well-wishes, as the likes of Vick Hope, bandmate Rochelle Humes, Melvin Odoom, and Jamie Laing sent love. Co-host Matt Edmondson also expressed his concern, writing: 'We've missed you! ❤️'
Mollie King has admitted the A&E dash was a 'wake-up call' and has been quiet on social media over the past couple of weeks. Her last post was three days ago when she marked her birthday, sharing photos and expressing gratitude for her life and family.
Mollie King and Stuart Broad began dating in 2012, but they split after less than a year together. They rekindled their relationship in 2019 and have been going strong ever since. Despite being engaged to Stuart for five years now, Mollie recently shared that she 'can't bear to think about' getting married still, knowing her late dad won't be there for her special day.
Mollie King rose to fame as part of a girl group in the late 2000s, releasing tunes like Up, Ego, and What About Us. She ventured into broadcasting after The Saturdays went on an indefinite hiatus in 2014 after a brief solo music career.
Online, Mollie King frequently shares snapshots of her home life with Stuart, 39, to whom she got engaged in January 2021, and their two daughters. Their eldest daughter, Annabella, arrived in November 2022, and Mollie booked a C-section so her own father could meet his grandchild before he died from a brain tumour.
