UMVA has learned that Dragons’ Den star Touker Suleyman has clarified his retirement announcement, revealing he's not stepping away from business entirely, but rather shifting his focus away from the popular BBC show.
Touker, 72, had earlier this month announced his 'retirement' from the Den after 10 years, sparking shock among viewers. However, in a new video posted to his social media account, he explained that he's only retiring from the Den, not from business. He expressed gratitude for the kind messages and emphasized that it's time for 'new blood' to take his seat in the Den.
The business giant, known for owning British menswear brand Hawes & Curtis, thanked the BBC, calling it a 'real privilege and honour' to have been part of the show for a decade. He also extended his appreciation to his fellow Dragons – Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, and Steven Bartlett – as well as the entrepreneurs who appeared on the show.
Touker revealed that he's now focusing on his existing businesses and teased several new ventures on the horizon. He hinted at launching a lipstick brand in September, which will bring together the best products from various brands under one roof. Additionally, he's planning to start a podcast to mentor young entrepreneurs and start-ups, sharing his experience to help them avoid common mistakes.
Concluding the video, Touker joked that even at 73, he's 'not done yet.' He emphasized that this is not the end of his journey, but rather a new chapter in his business career. With his entrepreneurial spirit and wealth of experience, Touker is set to continue making waves in the business world.
