Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his squad this summer. One of his top targets is Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, who has impressed with his goal-scoring ability. Alvarez has scored 49 goals in his two seasons at Atletico Madrid since leaving Manchester City.
Alvarez's future has been the subject of speculation, with several top European clubs interested in signing him. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and PSG are all reportedly keen on securing his signature, but Atletico Madrid has insisted that he is not for sale. Despite this, Arsenal has made a renewed effort to sign Alvarez.
The Gunners are reportedly "pushing" for Alvarez and exploring the possibility of a deal before their squad returns for pre-season training. While Alvarez prefers to stay in Spain and join either Barcelona or Real Madrid, he is believed to be open to a move to the Premier League champions.
A potential stumbling block for Arsenal is Alvarez's price tag, which is reportedly over £100m. The club is reluctant to pay more than £90m, and negotiations may be necessary to reach a mutually agreeable deal. Arsenal is also working on a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has already informed his club that he wants to leave.
Arsenal has already made a verbal approach worth £45m for Guimaraes, which was rejected by Newcastle. The club is prepared to make an improved offer, having already agreed personal terms with the Brazilian midfielder. Alvarez is not the only World Cup star on Arsenal's radar, as they also admire England and Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers.
