NURSERY HORROR: Baby Dies After Parents' Trust SHATTERED!

NURSERY HORROR: Baby Dies After Parents' Trust SHATTERED!

The morning of December 9, 2022, began like any other for Masi Sibanda, heavily pregnant and battling sickness. A biting cold gripped the air, a detail that now haunts her, feeling like a silent, desperate warning she failed to heed. She prepared to leave her 14-month-old son, Noah, at nursery, a routine she’d never questioned.

Trust came easily. She’d never considered the possibility of danger, never weighed the kindness or potential cruelty of those entrusted with her child’s care. It was a simple act of faith, a mother’s belief in the safety of the world around her. Then came the call – the one that shatters a life into irreparable pieces: Noah had stopped breathing.

Masi remembers rushing to the nursery, initially believing Noah was simply unwell. She grabbed Calpol, picturing a feverish little boy needing comfort. A second, more terrifying call changed everything. Noah was being rushed to the hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

The nursery, Fairytales, which has since closed, offered no explanation, no comfort. Instead, Masi felt a chilling shift in blame, a cruel suggestion that Noah was simply a “poorly boy.” They reopened the following week, seemingly untouched by the tragedy, leaving Masi reeling in disbelief and grief.

Noah was a happy, relaxed baby, full of quiet contentment. His death occurred during naptime, a moment of supposed peace turned into an unimaginable nightmare. The details remain etched in Masi’s mind, a constant, agonizing replay of that fateful day.

Kimberley Cookson, now 23, has pleaded guilty to gross negligence manslaughter in connection with Noah’s death. Deborah Latewood, 55, the nursery owner, has admitted a Health and Safety at Work Act offence, claiming she was unaware of the dangerous practices occurring within her care. Both await sentencing.

Masi’s pain extends beyond the loss of Noah. She feels a profound anger at the inadequacy of current safeguards. More CCTV, she argues, isn’t enough. Her son died *on* CCTV, yet abuse can still occur hidden from view. The nursery actively discouraged parental observation, claiming it was for the safety of other children – a claim now proven false.

Ten days after Noah’s funeral, Masi and her husband, Thulani, welcomed a daughter into the world. She is a vibrant, energetic child, a stark contrast to the more reserved nature of her brother. The joy of her daughter is tempered by the constant reminder of what was lost.

Sending her daughter to preschool feels like a betrayal of Noah, a repetition of the mistake that cost him his life – the act of trusting others with her child’s safety. Yet, her daughter’s inquisitive spirit and desire for connection leave them with no choice.

Masi wonders what Noah would have been like, if he’d had the chance to grow and change. Would he have become more outgoing, more like his sister? The agonizing truth is, they will never know. Kimberley Cookson stole that future, that possibility, leaving behind a void that can never be filled.
