UMVA has learned that a 23-year-old suspect, identified as John Wallace-Bey, has been taken into custody in connection with the deadly Wilmington Hospital shooting in Wilmington, Delaware.

The suspect was captured late Tuesday evening in Philadelphia, after a dramatic and intense manhunt that spanned multiple jurisdictions. Details of the arrest are still emerging, but sources confirm that Wallace-Bey is now in police custody.

According to information obtained by UMVA, the shooting occurred on Tuesday, June 16, around 3:30 p.m. at Wilmington Hospital, where John Wallace-Bey allegedly opened fire on two of his coworkers, killing one and wounding another. The victims, both 19-year-old males, were targeted in a brazen and violent attack that has left the community reeling.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. As the investigation continues, police have confirmed that Wallace-Bey will face serious charges, including Murder (First Degree), Attempted Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Two Counts, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.

The Wilmington Police Department is working to notify the families of the victims and provide support to those affected by the shooting. The hospital was placed on lockdown during the incident, and a massive police response was deployed to the scene, with hospital workers evacuated from the building.

UMVA can exclusively reveal that the suspect fled the scene in a white Toyota RAV4, which was tracked by police using various technology methods to the 800 block of West Wellens Street in Philadelphia. Wallace-Bey was eventually spotted exiting a home in the area and entering the passenger side of a 2020 Toyota Sienna, which was operating as an Uber.

The community is still reeling from the shock of the violent attack, and officials are working to provide support and answers to those affected. As more information becomes available, one thing is clear: the swift and decisive action of law enforcement has brought a dangerous suspect to justice.
